Travel Guidelines during COVID-19

As the world navigates through this unpredictable and stressful time, the notion of traveling has undergone an interesting development. To help those who are looking to travel in a responsible manner, we have provided COVID-friendly staycation plans made by real travelers. We have also partnered with FleeCOVID to assemble location-specific live data and you can view their destinations page to find the latest data by state.

We put together this guideline based on the recommendations by WHO and CDC. In general, do not travel if you are sick, have been around someone who was sick, or travel with someone who is sick. More guides on traveling can be found in Travel during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Prefer outdoor over indoor

Many of the FleeCOVID trips are planned around state/national parks. This is because outdoor activities are encouraged by CDC as it involves spacious, well-ventilated place, and exercising can boost your immunity. For more information, refer to Visiting Parks and Recreational Facilities.

Face coverings guidance

It is important to wear a mask when feasible to slow the spread of coronavirus. Proper guidelines on how to select, wear, and wash a mask can be found in the CDC's: Use of Masks to Help Slow the Spread of COVID-19.

COVID cases and deaths by state/county

In general, you want to visit places with less cases for a reduced chance of infection. Check out the number of cases by state/county to make informed decisions on your next destination.

Keeping your hands clean

Hands that have touched viral droplets can cause an infection by contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Avoid touching those areas as much as possible. It is important to wash your hands after certain activities to mitigate the risk of viral contraction. Visit When and How to Wash Your Hands to learn more.

Follow social distancing guidelines

The single most effective way to prevent spreading coronavirus is to not go anywhere at all. But if you decide to, keep a distance of at least 6 feet or more between people. Check out CDC's take on social distancing.

Visiting from outside the United States

Some restrictions may apply if you are planning to visit from overseas. Refer to Travelers Prohibited from Entry to the United States and make sure you qualify for an entrance.

TL;DR

Wear masks everywhere, don’t dine indoors, stay 6 feet apart, don't gather in large groups, check the local updates on cases, respect your fellow person, and most importantly, stay safe!
